The end of an era

Hi y'all! I don't really know how to go about starting this post because there is quite a lot on my mind about this blog. I started The Pink and Green Prep four years ago, when I was going into my junior year of high school. To be honest, I was just really bored during the summer and due to inspiration from Summer Wind and Monograms and Manicures, I decided to start this blog. I had no idea that it would be such a success and that so many people would respond positively to my posts.
Now, four years later, I'm a rising junior in college, and very much a different person from the high school junior who had so much pep and enthusiasm for writing about headbands and shift dresses. I am so thankful for everyone who has viewed, commented, and liked what I've written. I have had so much fun working on The Pink and Green Prep, but sadly this is the last post. I have changed a lot in the time from 11th grade to now, and originally my plan was to keep writing until I graduate college. However, for personal reasons I would rather not continue with the blog. I have loved every email that y'all have sent me, as well as every awkward face-to-face encounter that I've had with readers (shoutout to two very special Tri Delt freshman who recognized me at a frat party, you know who you are). Thank you so so much for your endless support, for y'all have kept me going with The Pink and Green Prep! I never knew this blog would have any readers, let alone almost 2 million views. And who knows, maybe y'all will see me in the future with another site!

How to: Cooler Painting

I recently wrote an article for Her Campus Wake Forest about cooler painting for beach weekends and off-campus formals.  I have beach weekend on the brain because I am going to dirty Myrtle in a couple of days, so I thought I'd repost the article for y'all!

The end of the spring semester brings along much anticipated beach weekends. While the actual weekend is a ton of fun, the time leading up to the event can definitely be stressful!
Wake Forest tradition relies on painting a personalized cooler for your date to hold all the drinks and food. But everyone knows what’s in the cooler is much less important than how it looks on the outside! So, get your creative juices flowing and start preparing for painting your beach weekend cooler!
The prep work isn’t as time consuming as the actual painting, but it can be difficult deciding what designs to put on your date’s cooler. I like to think of five main categories for each specific side: (1) the fraternity, (2) the event, (3) his name, (4) his favorite drink and (5) where he’s from. Pinterest and The Cooler Connection on Facebook have so many great ideas for what to paint. I definitely spent a lot of time browsing both of those sites to see what other people put on their coolers. The Cooler Connection also has a list of fraternity sayings that you could borrow as well.
Some ideas include:
  • Put “Beach Weekend” on a license plate for the state you’re going to be in.
  • Paint the state flag of where he’s from.
  • Anything America themed!
  • Paint a beach scene.
  • Paint his fraternity crest.
When it comes to actually prepping and painting the cooler, don’t freak out! It seems so crazy and hard but it’s really not at all.
First, go buy the cooler. If they don’t have one at Walmart, check Target, Home Depot or Sears.
Second, prime it. I like the spray primer because it gives you really even coverage. I have also heard of people sanding the cooler surface down to make it smoother. Note: I have not personally done this, and unless you are really invested in the cooler painting process, I don’t think it’s necessary!
Third, draw everything out and paint! The last step in the painting process is to seal it. I used a Modge Podge spray and it dried super quickly.

In order to get the letters exact (I’m a perfectionist when it comes to crafting), I printed out the words I wanted in the fonts that I wanted to emulate and then traced everything out onto the cooler in pencil. It really made my letters look precise and clean! The Cooler Connection has a page full of links for specific fonts for brands (like Vineyard Vines, Heineken, etc) so you don’t have to spend a lot of time searching the Internet for the right font.
I hope that this helps all of the lucky girls who were asked to beach weekend lessen their stress about cooler painting! My roommate and I literally would just watch Netflix while painting to make it a little less boring. At the end of it all, you’ll definitely have a cooler to be proud of!
Have a great day!

Obsession: White Chucks

Hello hello! I found this image on Pinterest and I must say that I really like the white converse. They're perfect for spring and summer!

I usually wear blue Chucks to go out (a Wake Forest sorority tradition), but the white are more versatile and great for daytime wear.

Have a great day!

Top 5 Favorite Sandals

It's finally getting warm enough outside to wear springtime and summertime clothes! I am quite sick and tired of riding boots, as much as I hate to say it, but now I get to break out my favorite sandals. Here are my top 5 favorites.

(1) McKims are the most comfortable sandals ever

(2) Tory Burch makes great logo-sandals in so many different colors.

(3) These Vineyard Vines flip flops are perfect for going to the beach!

(4) Jack Rogers are the classic summer sandal, perfectly paired with Lilly! Also try the monogrammed version!

(5) These Kate Spade wedge sandals are pretty much the only heels that I can walk in. They are super comfy and can be worn casually or with a nice dress! I plan on wearing them to formal!

What are y'alls favorite sandals? Let me know!

Have a great day!

What I'm Wearing: Sorority Formal

Formal is quickly approaching, and I am beyond excited to wear the Preen Dress from the summer 2013 collection from Lilly Pulitzer! It was an unexpected purchase from last summer, but it looks amazing on and it's so much fun. Formal should be a great time!

Have a great day!

Skirtin' Around with J. Crew

I am so done with this weather. It literally was snowing on Tuesday after being 70 and sunny last Friday. It's confusing and annoying and for goodness sake it's almost April! Until the weather finally stabilizes and is warm, I will resort to online-stalking spring and summer clothes.

I have recently been loving the J. Crew Factory skirts. I have a navy eyelet one, and it's such a nice alternative to my usual Lilly dress. If anyone has been watching my Pinterest lately, y'all know that half of what I pin are outfits with the skirts shown below!

You can't go wrong with these skirts. Pair them with a tank and cardigan, chambray shirt, or gingham button down!

Hope y'all have an awesome day!

Decorating Your Dorm: Wooden Monograms + GIVEAWAY!

I had to make housing decisions earlier in March for my junior year, so I already have dorm room decorations on the brain! It's crazy to think that sophomore year is almost over, but I'm really excited for the upcoming year. I am not going abroad, like much of my pledge class and friend group, but I'm happy that two of my best friends are staying with me at Wake.

I'm rooming with my best friend and it's going to be so much fun! We're very much Lilly-lovers, so expect the dorm room pictures in late August to be super colorful! We also love the large wooden monogram letters that a lot of shops on Etsy sell. It's a nice update to the wooden initials that I have in my room currently
The Spotted Zebras is an online shop that sells wooden monogram letters. You can buy the initials individually, or as a monogram set. I absolutely adorable them and think that they add great personalization for any monogram-lover's dorm room. Here are my three favorites from the Spotted Zebras.

Connected Wooden Circle Monogram
Reverse Circle Wooden Monogram
Wooden Connected Script Vine Monogram
Today is the first day of the Spotted Zebras + the Pink and Green Prep giveaway for a $50 gift card! It  ends one week from today so enter enter enter!

Do any of y'all have a wooden monogram in your room? Let me know!

Have a great day!

What I'm Wearing: Carolina Cup

Follow me on Instagram!
I'm wearing a Jubilee-era Betsey Dress from Lilly! Strapless dresses are my personal favorite, and it's just so pretty! I'm pairing it with gold McKim's (my personal comfortable). I was going to wear a monogrammed derby hat but then I came to the honest realization that I really don't look good in I'm breaking the derby tradition!

Another note about shoes. Wear flat sandals, I am begging you. Wedges are not the way to go for Carolina Cup!

Prepare for any kind of weather...I know a couple of years ago it was raining, and girls wore Hunter's instead of sandals. It happens! Pack a bag for the bus ride over with water, a snack, maybe makeup and a's a long day and you don't want to be without the essentials. Last year I woke up at like 5 to get on the fraternity bus, and I got back at probably 8 or 9!

Looking forward to seeing y'all in your Lilly best! Tweet me @PandGPrepBlog if y'all are there and want to say hey!

Sorting my life out

Hey everyone! A lot of y'all have asked me to write a post about my plans for after college, as well as what classes I'm taking and what my major is. It has been a long and tiring process, but I think that I have finally started to figure things out and make some decisions about my future!

At Wake Forest, we have to decide our major by February of our sophomore year. I changed my mind a million times...I have been pre-med, pre-business, health and exercise science, elementary education, special education, communications, political science...literally everything.

I finally decided on Psychology after taking an intro-psych class my sophomore fall! I absolutely love it and I find it to be so interesting. I'm taking two psych classes this current semester, and then for the next two years they will be the majority of my hours.

I also declared a communications minor. There are so many areas that you can get involved in with a comm major/minor, and while at first I was interested in broadcast journalism (back in the days when I wanted to be a Fox News, I am now looking toward the PR and marketing path.

This blog has been a great way to get involved with journalism and communications in general. Funnily enough, one of my comm professors said that starting a blog is a great way to gain experience if I ever wanted to follow through in magazine industry in the future!

Who knows what I'll do post-college or where I'll live but at least I've got my foot in the door with  some decisions!

Have a great day!

Weekend Recap

Hey everyone! I hope y'all had a fabulous weekend. On Saturday I had the joy of being part of the Morale committee for one of Wake Forest's biggest philanthropy events, Wake N Shake! The theme was "superheroes" and literally it couldn't have been more perfect!

Basically, the Morale committee keeps energy up for the entire 12-hour event. We had choreographed dances that we taught every hour or so, and we also tried to pump everyone up who attended the dance marathon.

My lovely BFF/future roomie and I were on the team together! Yes, we know our outfits are ridiculous...

Dancing on the stage at the end of the 12 hours!

There were six different teams for Wake N Shake, and different sororities/fraternities/clubs were put on each team. Tri Delt was part of the "Batman" team.

WE GOT A PICTURE WITH COACH CLAWSON. Our new football coach spoke at the beginning of the event, and jAk and I are literally obsessed with of course we had to take a picture with him!

Wake N Shake 2014 raised $141,586.41!!!! I am so so proud of the work that everyone put into the day and SO happy about the amount of money we raised this year!

Have a great day!

Friday Five

Hey y'all! Time for a Friday Five!

1. I started Grey's Anatomy last weekend and have spent the entire week binge-watching it on Netflix. It's SO good! I'm really happy there are a lot of seasons because I needed a new Netflix show to fill my time!

2. My new roomie and I are starting to think about our dorm room for next year! Get ready for a lot of prep-posts over the summer! Isn't the room above perfect?

3. Tomorrow is the huge philanthropy event that Wake Forest hosts, Wake n Shake! I'm super excited, especially since I'm on the morale team for the occasion. It's a twelve-hour dance marathon to raise money for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund!

4. On the drive back from Florida last Saturday, I'm fairly certain we listened to "All of Me" by John Legend at least ten times. Literally the greatest song ever. It will be played at my wedding.

5. Remember to tweet/email/Facebook me any post requests whenever y'all have them!

Have a great weekend!

Want to earn a Lilly Pulitzer + Estée Lauder free gift?

Hi y'all! I'm so happy to share with y'all the amazing promotion that Macy's is having with Estée Lauder and Lilly Pulitzer. For a limited time (until March 23), if you make a $35 Estée Lauder purchase through the Macy's website, you can choose a free 7-piece gift that includes makeup from Estée Lauder and a Lilly cosmetic bag.

Here is a picture of the cosmetic bag! Isn't it so cute??

The makeup in the free gift can be tailored to your preferences through the option of a "bold" or "subtle" color palette.

Macy's has also added a "Foundation Finder" and "Skincare Finder" in order to find your perfect makeup match. This is so easy because you can find your correct foundation online rather than going to a specific store! It's a great way to figure out what the best choice is for your makeup so you can spend at least $35 to get the adorable free gift.

Top 5 Favorite Items from Lilly for Lifeguard Press

The Lilly for Lifeguard Press collection is my go-to for beach accessories, school supplies, and colorful technology. They really have all bases covered! Lifeguard Press recently released their new prints for 2014, so here are my top 5 favorite items from the new line.

(1) My iPhone is always losing battery way too quickly (mostly because I use it way too much), but with a backup mobile charger, keeping my phone up-and-running is so much easier.

(2) I would definitely use this wireless Bluetooth speaker for pregames with my friends!

(3) I have about 4 acrylic tumblers already, but I love the new prints.....

(4) You can never have too many croakies! These were so useful during spring break.

(5) I love these insulted tumblers! I have an overflow of drinkwear already in my dorm room but like...these are fantastic...

What are y'alls favorite items from the Lilly for Lifeguard Press new spring line? Let me know!

Have a great day!

Spring Break Recap

Hi y'all! I'm finally back from Spring Break, so sorry about the lack of posts for the past week! It was such a good time in Florida and I really wish that I was back on the beach instead of in the library. Here are some pictures of my spring break with my friends!

Follow me on Instagram!
Here is the beach in Naples on which we spent the past week!

My beautiful roomie and me on our last day!

Downtown Naples is literally adorable. I had never been before so I was so excited to get to visit!

My best friend (and future roomie!) and I!

Creepy stalker shot of my friends when we're walking to of the malls in Naples was literally the nicest outdoor mall that I have ever seen!

My best friends in the entire world!

Beach >>>>>> everything else

More roomie pics...

Here is the mall! Lululemon next to J. Crew next to Tory happy.

I loved being with my best friends for the week and I'm so glad that we got to relax on the beach for a little while. The second half of second semester is insane (philanthropy events, Carolina Cup, formals, exams, oh my Lord) so this was just the break that we needed!

How were y'alls spring breaks? Where did you go? Let me know!

Have an awesome day!
